Destined to destroy empires, Mia Covere is only ten years old when she is given her first lesson in death.
Six years later, the child raised in shadows takes her first steps towards keeping the promise she made on the day she lost everything.
But the chance to strike against such powerful enemies will be fleeting, so if she is to have her revenge, Mia must become a weapon without equal. She must prove herself against the deadliest of friends and enemies, and survive the tutelage of murderers, liars and demons at the heart of a murder cult.
The Red Church is no Hogwarts, but Mia is no ordinary student.
The shadows love her. And they drink her fear.

So Nevernight is the first Jay Kristoff book I've read... and WOW! Can he write or can he write? All I can say is that I will definitely be reading more!

Although I did really enjoy Nevernight, it was a very slow read for me. I mean it is 643 pages long. I'd be proud of anyone who could read this book fast! It's also a very wordy book. I mean the same story could have been told in half the words. But it was written so wonderfully that I honestly didn't mind at all. In fact, I loved it!

Plus, I love that Jay Kristoff is clearly not afraid to use gazillions of swear words. As a Scottish girl (where every other word is f**k) I can truly appreciate this. Sometimes nothing can describe a situation in as perfect a way as f**k!

Nevernight's setting is just so awesome too! Who wouldn't want to go to assassin school? However, I must admit I wouldn't last 5 minutes, but it would still be cool while it lasted!

And Mia is just the most badass 16-year-old ever! She has balls of steel! And, oddly enough, I found I could relate to her in so many ways that I didn't expect. I mean she's a badass trainee assassin and I can't walk on a flat surface without tripping! Haha! But Mia appears to have a massive love of books! What isn't relatable about that? The Red Church library sounds pretty amazing too. If not slightly terrifying! Mia can also be a bit of a bitch and I just love her for it. Who doesn't love a bitchy character?

Even the secondary characters all brought something different to the story. They thought they were all brilliant, even though I didn't like them all. I especially loved Tric though - gotta love a tortured soul!

The story is told from Mia's point of view, but I didn't find it predictable at all. Mia still has an air of mystery surrounding her even at the end of the story. I also didn't expect the way the story twisted near the end either. Nevernight definitely has a climatic and action-packed ending and I just couldn't put it down. Not all the plot point are tied up though so now I can't wait for the sequel. I need to know more of Mia's story!

I would definitely recommend Nevernight, particularly to fans of high fantasy. It was a wonderful introduction to Jay Kristoff and I can't wait to read more of his books.

Feature and Follow (29 May)

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of  Parajunkee’s View  and Alison of  Alison Can Read . Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs! I'm one of the featured blogs this week! Along with Amanda of  The Darling Bookworm . This week’s Question: How many books have you got on your TBR list? I recently had a bit of a cull of my TBR list so now it is sitting at 269. I'm trying my hardest to get it below 200 by the end of the year but I really don't see it happening. I'd currently be happy if I managed to get it below 225. However, I did recently have a look through my TBR on Goodreads and deleted a few books that I don't think I will actually ever read - I'm not even to sure how they got there anyway.
